Krishna Janmashtami (also known as Krishna Ashtami, Saatam Aatham, Gokulashtami, Astami Rohini, Srikrishna Jayanti, Sree Jayanthi, and Janmashtami) is a Hindu festival that commemorates the birth of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna is the eighth manifestation of Lord Vishnu, the Trinity's preserver. Krishna, the deity of love, kindness, and compassion, was born at midnight in a prison in present-day Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, to Queen Devaki and King Vasudeva. It falls on the eighth day of the Hindu month of Bhadrava, which falls in August or September each year.
