Dainik Bhaskar heralds print revival with 72-page mega Bhopal edition

India’s second most read newspaper, Dainik Bhaskar came out with a 72-page Bhopal edition on August 13. Twitter user R D Bhatnagar hailed the development as an indicator of revival of advertising on print media. This is the highest pagination in any newspaper since the pandemic forced the Government of India to declare a nationwide Lockdown.

Print media circulation and advertising revenue had been severely impacted by the Covid-19 crisis leading to shrinking of pagination to 12 pages across English and language newspapers. Most newspapers rely advertising for up to 70% of their revenues. After the shuttering of numerous local newspapers and thousands of job losses, regional print media has shown the first signs of a bounce back.
