Google says CCI decision will make Android smartphones expensive

Google says that the Competition Commission of India (CCI)'s decision will make smartphones more expensive, harm the internet, increase privacy risks, and create more costs for app developers. According to the CCI, the antitrust ruling "strikes a blow" at the country's ecosystem-wide efforts to accelerate digital adoption.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court agreed to hear Google's appeal against NCLAT's order refusing to block CCI's Android antitrust decision on January 16.
The CCI in October fined Alphabet Inc-owned Google $161 million for exploiting its dominant position in Android, which powers 97 percent of smartphones in India, and asked it to change restrictions imposed on smartphone makers in pre-installing apps.
Google has so far said the CCI decision will force it to change its long-standing business model, but a court filing by the company reported by Reuters has quantified the impact and details the changes the company will need to make.
