Hero Electric takes Hero Moto to court over brand name

Just over a decade after the many factions of the Munjal family worked out a settlement of its numerous enterprises, the rising interest in electric cars has put two portions of the Munjal family in a legal knot.

Vijay Munjal and his son Naveen Munjal, the proprietors of Hero Electric, have sued Pawan Munjal, the CMD of two-wheeler market leader Hero MotoCorp, over the usage of the Hero brand name for Hero MotoCorp's soon-to-be-released EV line.

Hero Electric, founded by Vijay and Naveen Munjal, has been in the EV market for 15 years. According to media reports, the branding problem did not arise before because electric vehicles were not a hot-pocket business category until lately.
