Jigsee's Video Streaming to benefit over 500 Mn feature phone owners

The consumer experience of viewing video content on mobile phones is set for a paradigm shift with the introduction of Jigsee Beta, which will enable mobile subscribers to access premium video content on the most popular mobile phones at absolutely no cost.

Developed by mobile video streaming start-up, Jigsee Inc., the patent pending smooth streaming technology helps deliver continuous video flow on wireless data networks as slow as 50 Kbps (the average speed of GPRS data-rates across India is estimated to be 60 Kbps).

Combined with its tried and tested mobile application which makes video streaming possible even on phones with basic features (often referred to as feature phones), Jigsee has overcome hurdles that have so far prevented adoption of Mobile Video in most emerging markets.

With an estimated 90% of Indian mobile subscribers using feature phones, this translates into a potential audience of over 500 million in the Indian sub-continent alone. These mobile subscribers have so far been unable to access video streaming services such as YouTube, which cater primarily to users of advanced smart-phones with access to 3G or other broadband connections.

Jigsee Beta is already available for free download on the Ovi store and via https://m.jigsee.com . From August 15, it will be available at half a dozen additional app stores, including Getjar, Appia (Opera Mobile Store, Zedge, Mobile2day), Tata Docomo and Airtel.

To begin with, over 200 Java enabled mobile handset models will support the Jigsee application. Over a period of time most phones, including those with the Android operating system, will be supported by Jigsee.
