Marathi cinema has turned the 'meaningful' corner: Wagh

Marathi cinema has turned the corner for the better, says Entertainment Society of Goa chairman Vishnu Wagh.

Addressing a press conference during the 44th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) Wagh said that the film ‘Shwaas’, India’s entry to the Oscar awards in 2004, turned the tide in Marathi cinema towards good films.

"In between, there was a patch in the Marathi film industry that was threatening to take cinema away from content and meaning. After the production of Shwaas, Marathi cinema took a prosperous turn and started making commendable cinema,” Wagh said.

“People have started taking note of Marathi films as a whole. Sanjay Jhadhav's ‘Duniyadari’ is spoken of highly and I hope the audiences love the movie,” he further said.

Jadhav himself was present on the occasion. The director said that his film was set against the backdrop of the 1970s and that it was a runaway hit.

“Duniyadari is a film based against the backdrop of the 70's. The film talks about friendship, love and romance. My main motive was to entertain the audience. It is the highest grosser film,” Wagh said.
Swapnil Joshi, a renowned Marathi actor who plays the male lead in Jadhav’s film said that he had agreat time acting in the film and that the whole team was like family.

“I had a great time working on this film. If the director is confident of his story and script, it becomes very easy for the actor to follow the instructions. Mr. Jadhav has been very instrumental in showing me the right path,” Joshi said
