Adgully Exclusive | Marie Claire in its 5th year zest says "Power to you"

Marie Claire, published by the Outlook Group in India, has completed five years and hit the newsstands in a repackaged version on June 3, 2011.Launched with the theme LET ME BE ME, the magazine saluted the spirit of independent, free thinking modern Indian woman. And the theme was extended as it became a campaign on different subjects like Moral Policing, Sexual harassment at work place, Child Labour, preserving the girl child etc.

Suresh Selvaraj, President, Marie Claire, talks to Adgully about the magazines journey through the years.

He says that the magazine had also launched the fashion awards for Indian designers, the first of its kind and that too by a fashion magazine in India. Since then Marie Claire Fashion Awards have become a permanent and much sought-after event in the fashion calendar in India.

Selvaraj adds, "Marie Claire has conducted a program with Dastakar, the society which promotes craftsmen and weavers. We brought together ten young designers to work with crafts people from the nooks and corners of the country. It was an interesting initiative because on one hand we had the suave, well-heeled, educated and well-exposed young designers and on the other hand, we had had craftsmen and weavers who are predominantly form the rural areas of remote States, largely uneducated, shy but largely extremely skilled. The brief was to bring out a collection using what the craftsmen produce. What came out of the association was sheer magic."

The magazine made models wear those creations and they sashayed the ramp in Marie Claire's fashion show. "It brought tears of joy for all those who were at the fashion

While signing off, Selvaraj says, "Subscription is a major focus area for us. Outlook Group has a robust and established circulation network and being part of the group naturally helps us to keep the circulation worries away." | By Prabha Hegde [prabha(at)adgully.com]
