Adgully Exclusive | We over-promise to markets and under sell ourselves: WATMedia's Rajiv Dingra

WATMedia Pvt Ltd, a Digital Media Company, that aims to bring the digital media industry in India closer through the use of its media and media allied services saw its inception five years back. WAT stands for Web, Advertising and Technology and all the brands of WATMedia focus on connecting, conversing and collaborating.

The company has three main units of expertise- events, online publication and a social media consulting agency.

WATBlog.com, the company's premiere digital media blog was started by Rajiv Dingra, Founder & CEO, WATMedia when he was 21. In an exclusive chat with Adgully, he says, "It has been five years and we have seen only progress. We started off as WATBlog but our vision is to be thought leaders in the digital media space. WAT stands for Web, Advertising and Technology, clearly the way we look at it is that one cannot exist without the other two. So for us WAT is the convergence and WAT is the evolution.

So aren't there drawbacks of catering to a niche space?

Dingra says, "In our view it is going to shift from how many to who. We are playing in a space where we are trying to be the largest publication, and this space is growing by 50% year on year."

Besides for WATBlog, the company also handles social media agency WATConsult. "We are an end to end social media agency, WATConsult provides everything from overall campaign strategy to executional elements on Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Scribd etc. We beleive in coming at the brief's stage. We have full capability in building a brand's scaleability on social media," he adds.

WATConsult has rich understanding of paid, owned, shared and earned media. "85% of our revenue comes only from our social media consulting business. We have big clients and it is a base of more than 30 clients. It is a complete pull mechanism and our vision for WAT Consult is to be a creative powerhouse of conversational marketing," Dingra adds.

Recently the company has organised four events- WATBlog Panel, WATBlog Wednesdays, WAT Summit and WAT Awards.

As an advice to the leaders in the digital space while signing off he says, " We need to raise the bar in terms of quality and the marketers have to understand the youth that is growing on smartphones, Facebook status updates and tweets." | By Prabha Hegde [prabha(at)adgully.com]
