Ajit Mohan quits as Meta India Head; joining Snap as Asia Pacific Head

In a sudden move, Ajit Mohan, Country Head for India at Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has quit the organisation. In a LinkedIn post, Mohan said, “After almost 4 years leading Meta (Facebook) in India, I am stepping down from my role. I am grateful to the company for the amazing opportunity to lead its efforts in one of its most important countries and I am absolutely proud of the work the team and I have done to create impact for people, creators and businesses around the country.”

He further wrote, “When I took on this role, my objective was to build a team and a company that would be a valuable ally to India and play a useful role in fuelling its economic and social transformation. This is exactly what we have managed to do in the last four years.”

In his post, Mohan also announced that he is going to lead the Asia Pacific region for Snap and be a part of the company’s executive team. “Can't wait to get started!” he exclaimed.

It was in 2019 that Mohan joined Facebook in the newly-created role of Managing Director for India, a VP-level role. One of the most important responsibilities for Mohan was to align teams and drive Facebook’s overall strategy in India. This was a new structure for Facebook India of having a senior leader reporting into Menlo Park and not Asia Pacific.

Mohan had joined Facebook from Hotstar, the streaming platform launched by Star India, where he was Chief Executive Officer. He launched and built Hotstar into India’s leading premium video streaming platform.

Mohan is an alumnus of McKinsey and Company’s New York office, where he worked with media companies around the globe as well as served as a Fellow at the McKinsey Global Institute, where he focused on India’s rapid urbanisation. He is a graduate of the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
