Amazon lays off 18,000 employees since November

In 2022, Amazon become part of the litany of technology companies that begun laying off their employees. It was reported by the New York Times in November that the company aimed to let go of nearly 10,000 employees, but that number has risen to a great extent. In the last two months, the company has let go off 18,000 employees, according to Andy Jassy, Amazon CEO.
Many employees who worked across Amazon Devices and Books businesses and also in People, Experience and Technology (PXT) organisations were laid off.
As per Jassy, the vast part of employee eliminations are in PXT organisations and Amazon stores. The CEO attributed the drastic action to unsteady and hard economies in the past. He hinted that more people will be sacked.
According to the company, it is working to assist those who are being affected and are offering packages including a separation payment, external job placement support, transitional health insurance benefits, etc.
In India too, the layoffs reportedly had an effect on the company’s employees. According to Jassy, some number of layoffs would be occurring in Europe, and the employees who are impacted will be well informed from January 18. The organisation had nearly 1.5 million employees in total.
In the previous year, it was declared by Meta that it will be deducting the number of employees by 11,000 employees. It was announced by Intel that it will be reducing jobs, but Google CEO Sundar Pichai has not indicated about any lay-off plans.
