Anupam Kher starrer Happy Birthday gets good response

Prasad Kadam’s directorial Happy Birthday has been receiving an “overwhelming response”. The short film stars Anupam Kher and Aahana Kumra in pivotal roles.

“Our film has already crossed 1 million views. People are having serious discussions about the film and its climax. There are already some fan theories about Anupam sir’s character. It feels amazing,” says the director.

Sharing more response the film received, Prasad adds, “There are a few people who said they were so scared after watching the film, they couldn't sleep. I was reading a few comments where the audiences were actually debating the concept of life and death. This happens only when a film connects strongly with audiences. We are happy we could achieve that.”

Many find the format of short films interesting. In today’s fast-paced world, it seems there are many takers of the format, hence a lot of them are getting produced.

“The short film format is like T-20 cricket. It's a quick process. But filmmaking remains the same. You need the same team as you would need in a long format project. The good thing is that there are many platforms that are welcoming good short films now. Many established actors are open for short films too, which is great. Producers are happily investing as they are getting the returns. That's the reason there are so many good short films getting produced,” he explains.

Revealing his future plans, Prasad confirms about his plans of making a full-length feature soon. “I am working on my debut feature film now. We fortunately have locked an amazing star cast and will make an announcement at the right time. Also, there is a very interesting science fiction web series in the pipeline. So, I guess I have been locked for the next couple of years already,” he smiles.

Direction has become a competitive field. There are many who have made a mark and many new ones are coming up with unique concepts. At the same time, the audience is also keen on something new every time.

“With the growth in the digital market, there is a high demand for content. A lot of youngsters are choosing direction as a profession. It's a good sign until most of them are driven by passion. The tougher the competition, the better our films will be. I am happy about this,” he adds.
