Balaji in content expansion mode

Balaji Telefilms Limited plans to venture into the regional space for further expansion and to solidify their leadership in the small screen. They would also bring in new content for the Hindi shows.

The production house is planning to launch 10 shows in Bengali and southern languages. They are also looking into tie-ups with the local partners in order to set their foot in the regional space. “Our plan is to have 3–5 shows each in Bengali and Southern languages by the end of FY2016,” the company said in its annual report for 2014-15.

Some of the top shows of Balaji like KumKum Bhagya will be remade for Zee Bangla while Ye Hai Mohabbatein has already been remade for regional languages like Tamil and Bengali. They are also eyeing to launch the celebrity sports reality show ‘Box Cricket League’ in the regional space.

In the GEC space, they have made a strong presence felt by some of the top shows and they are revamping the content in order to have stronger holding. The production house is planning to further their content by adding six more shows like Nagin, which will be a one hour show on colors and Kuch To Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan on Star Plus. There is also an untitled show in the pipeline for Zee TV slated to launch in September 2015. They also plan to launch a comedy show based on the lines of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.

Balaji has chalked out a robust strategy for the year 2016 and 2017 in films as well. They intend to launch films like Azhar, A Flying Jatt, Suspect X, Naatak,and Bhool Se Naam Na Lo Pyaar Ka, among others.
