BARC Wk 26: News genre records 3% growth with 2,247,000 AMAs

The News genre recorded a growth of 3% to register 2,247(000) AMAs as per BARC data for Week 26 (Saturday, 25th June 2022 To Friday, 1st July 2022) [All Days, 0600Hrs to 2400Hrs, TG : 15+, Market : HSM, Period : Wk 25’2022 & 26’2022, Channels : Hindi News Genre (12 Hindi News Channels)]. The news genre had recorded 2,182(000) AMAs in Week 25.

In HSM 15+, India TV continued to lead the Hindi News genre with 13.2% of Relative Share in the current week. Aaj Tak followed close behind with a relative share of 13.1%. News18 India and Republic TV were placed at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, with relative shares of 11.9% and 11.7%. TV9 Bharatvarsh was placed at No. 5 with a relative share of 9.9%.

Breaking up news consumption into the two prime time slots – Morning and Evening – India TV is seen to lead in both the prime time slots. In the morning prime time slot (0700Hrs to 1000Hrs), India TV has garnered relative share of 29.5%, while in the evening prime time slot (2000Hrs to 2300Hrs), India TV’s relative share stood at 24.8% in Week 26.

The other leading News channels that made it to the Top 5 list in the morning prime time slot were:

  • Aaj Tak placed at No. 2 with 21.6% relative share
  • News18 India placed at No. 3 with 16.9% relative share
  • Good News Today placed at No. 4 with 16.1% relative share
  • Republic Bharat placed at No. 5 with 15.8% relative share

Apart from India TV, the other News channels that featured among the Top 5 channels in the evening prime time slot were:

  • Aaj Tak placed at No. 2 with 20.0% relative share
  • News18 India placed at No. 3 with 19.5% relative share
  • Republic Bharat placed at No. 4 with 17.9% relative share
  • Zee News placed at No. 5 with 17.7% relative share

Meanwhile, as per BARC data for HSM, TG 15+ NCCS All, Period Wk 26’22, Market Share, 14 Hindi News Channels, Aaj Tak has taken the top spot, leading with a market share of 12.6%.
