BARC Wk 34: Top 3 Hindi news channels see growth; Republic Bharat maintains lead

Week 34 (Saturday, 22nd August 2020 to Friday, 28th August 2020) didn’t see any change in the rankings of the Top 5 Hindi News channels, however, there was viewership growth for the Top 3 channels in this genre this week, BARC data (All India (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals) reveals.

Republic Bharat, which overtook Aaj Tak to claim the numero uno position last week, further consolidated its position in Week 34, witnessing an increase in its gross viewership to 285,200(000) from 223,101(000) recorded in Week 33.

Placed at No. 2, Aaj Tak, too, saw a growth in its gross viewership to 234,191(000), compared to 200,678(000) recorded in Week 33.

India TV continued in the third spot and also saw growth in its gross viewership this week. The channel garnered gross viewership of 179,488(000), as against 159,136(000) recorded last week.

On the other hand, TV9 Bharatvarsh saw a decline in its gross viewership to 148,837(000) from 151,856(000) recorded in Week 33. The channel continued to be placed in the fourth spot. News18 India remained unchanged at No. 5. The channel, too, saw a slight decline in its gross viewership – from 138,001(000) in Week 33 to 132,865(000) recorded this week.

English News

Republic TV continued last week’s story, further widening the gap with Times Now. Republic TV, the numero uno English News channel, reported a further growth in its gross viewership at 7,728(000) from 7,069(000) recorded in Week 33.

On the other hand, continuing at No. 2, Times Now has seen a decline in its gross viewership to 2,777(000) in Week 34 from 3,318(000) recorded last week.

This week, CNN News18 climbed up a notch to the third spot this week, however, the channel saw a decline in its gross viewership – from 1,755(000) in Week 33 to 1,399(000) recorded this week.

India Today Television, too, climbed up a notch to the fourth spot. The channel garnered a gross viewership of 1,334(000) in Week 34, an increase from 1,103(000) recorded last week.

Meanwhile, DD India slid a couple of notches to the fifth spot this week, registering a gross viewership of 1,255(000), a decline from 1,845(000) recorded in Week 33.
