BARC Wk 36: Republic Bharat, Aaj Tak record growth in viewership & market share

Week 36 (Saturday, 5th September 2020 to Friday, 11th September 2020) didn’t see much upheaval in the News genre. Among the Top 5 Hindi News channels, both Republic Bharat and Aaj Tak recorded gains this week, as per BARC data (All India (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals).

Placed in the numero uno spot, Republic Bharat further consolidated its position in Week 36, witnessing a gross viewership of 333,938(000), an increase from 287,062(000) recorded last week. The channel’s market share also grew from 19.91 per cent in Week 35 to 21.46 per cent this week (BARC | NCCS 2+ | HSM | Wk 36 ’20).

Aaj Tak, too, recorded growth in its gross viewership this week at 259,994(000), from 198,245(000) recorded in Week 35. Continuing at No. 2, the channel’s market share also grew from 13.25 per cent last week to 16.71 per cent in Week 36.

After slipping a notch to No. 4 last week, India TV saw gains in Week 36, climbing back a notch to the third spot. However, this climb did not have a positive impact on the channel’s gross viewership, which stood at 163,054(000), a decline from 165,444(000) recorded in Week 35. India TV’s market share also dipped to 10.48 per cent from last week’s 11.39 per cent.

Meanwhile, TV9 Bharatvarsh, which had climbed up a notch to the third spot in Week 35, slid a notch to be back at No. 4 this week, garnering a gross viewership of 161,187(000), compared to 168,764(000) recorded last week. The channel’s market share fell from 11.61 per cent last week to 10.36 per cent in Week 36.

With a gross viewership of 126,273(000), News18 India remained unchanged at No. 5 in Week 36 as well. However, the channel saw a decline in its gross viewership as compared to last week, where it stood at 134,583(000). News18 India’s market share this week dipped slightly to 8.11 per cent from 9.26 per cent last week.
