Betterhalf strengthens leadership team for Indian wedding industry expansion

Betterhalf, India’s first and only matrimony super app has made three significant additions to its leadership team with – Shantanu Singh (Head of Wedding Business); Pooja Singh (Associate Director- Human Resources) and Ramkumar Venkatasubramaniar (Associate Director – Product) to support its accelerating growth momentum.

The company is continuing to achieve remarkable success, recording $2.5 million annualized revenue in FY23 and a 3 times surge in the number of registered users. Additionally, the platform has also announced its second ESOP buyback for 27 employees, based on the output of its first ESOP. The exponential growth is attributed to Betterhalf’s strategic foray into the wedding business, further planned to be bolstered by the newly appointed leadership team.

Commenting on the appointment, the Co-founder and CEO of Betterhalf said, “We are delighted to have three competitive leaders onboard. The new leadership hires will aid the growth of the company across wedding business expansion, product, and HR. The appointment of Shantanu Singh as the Head of the Wedding Business will primarily focus on strengthening the company's dedication to customer-centricity by offering comprehensive wedding planning services. He will play a pivotal role in enhancing both profitability and growth for Betterhalf. Shantanu brings with him over 19 years of valuable experience and has previously held positions in renowned corporations and multinational companies such as Nokia and Siemens.

 In light of Betterhalf's upward trajectory, the platform has welcomed Ramkumar as the Associate Director of Product he has 17+ years of experience, an accomplished product leader with a distinguished career. Ramkumar's journey began as a Software Engineer, where he honed his skills in building complex systems.  Ramkumar's entrepreneurial spirit led him to found two companies, including FanDuniya, which was later acquired by Dream Sports. Post-acquisition, he played a pivotal role in leading the statistics vertical at FanCode, working with massive user bases and making data-driven decisions. His journey continued with Niro, an embedded finance startup, where he served as the Chief Product Officer (CPO)..

Additionally, the appointment of Pooja Singh as the Associate Director of HR will help cultivate a healthy and inclusive workspace for employees. She initiated her HR career with the Tata Group, where she gained comprehensive experience across all facets of HR and process excellence in just over two years. With a remarkable 10-year track record, she brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the team.

Betterhalf has been making strides in the Indian wedding industry by surpassing $1M in wedding bookings in a short span, post its $8.5 M Series A fundraising. It has scaled its business beyond expectations by closing bookings of $5k per month in December further raising it to $200k per month in August.

With a new leadership team onboard, Betterhalf is planning to expand its wedding services geographically And launch its comprehensive wedding services. It has already created a robust network of vendors and become a super app in the matchmaking and wedding space. The company has an extensive network of 30,000 venues and partners on its platform, including 750 venue partners in Bangalore. With increased attention and demand from end customers, Betterhalf is gearing up for its upcoming launch in Delhi and further strengthening its presence in the Indian wedding market.
