BRAND EQUITY assesses landline's future

Landlines are being steadily yanked off in India ” a process that began a decade ago ” as the wireless revolution annexes ever-growing swathes of telecom space in the country. Brand equity investigates if the landline, once a sign of privilege in India, will die unheralded or if it will manage to connect to relevance.

Also in the programme, two brand visionaries, Ramesh Chauhan, the CMD of Bisleri; and Ashok Kurien, a senior advisor at Publicis Groupe; take the Brand Equity Compatibility Quiz. Chauhan is feted for revolutionalizing the Indian bottled water and beverage segment, and Kurien is a celebrated brand builder. They relate the stories of their iconic brands.

The advertising industry's output has been prodigious of late, but it has also been scurrying to hire foreign talent. Brand Equity considers a critical question: are production houses up to speed with the growing ad industry?

Piyush Pandey, Brand Equity's guest expert for the week, nominates his top two favourites from Spikes Asia 2009. It is a choice fraught with emotional challenges.
