Catch Patanjali Ayurveda CEO Acharya Balkrishna this Week on Off Centre

This week on Off Centre, Anuradha SenGupta talks to Acharya Balkrishna, the dynamic CEO of Patanjali Ayurveda. From the company’s business philosophy, marketing model and future plans to the impact of politics on business, Acharya Balkrishna reveals the ambition and drive propelling Patanjali. He also talks about how the Congress party has persecuted Baba Ramdev and himself even as he denies that close ties with BJP leaders have benefitted them.

From ghee to toothpaste and instant noodles, the fastest growing consumer goods company in the country is giving established players, including MNCs, a run for their money. Explaining why Patanjali has achieved such large scale success Balkrishna says, ' The entire world knows me because of Ayurveda and knows Swamiji because of yoga. Other Yoga veterans may disagree, but I would like to say that everybody gives yoga speeches while Babaji practices it. That is the basic difference. Provoking the public to do something through action and practices is more effective than trying to do the same through speeches. This is where Patanjali’s strength lies. This same strength can take someone else too to the same heights. We’ve never stepped into any field where we did not have a basic understanding; we have never taught anything we do not practice by ourselves.’

He also talks about how unlike other consumer goods companies, Patanjali spends a mere 2-3% on advertising and marketing.  He also defends the Swadeshi vs. Videshi case that the company has used to market its products, adding that it does not protest against technology and that the best of the best technology should come to India.
