CNN-IBN ensures that the viewers' voice is heard

With the Union Budget being presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on 29th Feb, CNN-IBN once again ensured that the voice of the common citizenry is heard, with two recommendations on changes in tax provisions shared by the channel as part of its award winning initiative ‘Axe the Tax’, being included in Union Budget 2016.

For nine years now, the channel has presented suggestions to the Finance Minister to consider tax laws to be axed or modified. This year too, CNN-IBN presented five suggestions gathered on the basis of viewers’ feedback and from tax experts across the country. 2 out of 5 recommendations made by the channel were selected and included in Union Budget 2016.

The suggestions that were included in this budget are:
·         Implementation of some recommendations of the Easwar Panel on simplifying tax forms and procedures.

·         The deadline to avail a tax rebate on house construction has been extended.

The award winning initiative ‘Axe The Tax’ started in 2007 and aims at bringing the viewpoint of the taxpayer to the government. It showcases 5 personal tax laws that the taxpayer finds unfair and unjustified, and which they feel should be modified or done away with.
