CNN's Talk Asia to feature Oscar nominated Director Deepa Mehta

This week on Talk Asia, CNN’s Monita Rajpal sits down with the Oscar-nominated director Deepa Mehta in Mumbai to talk about her latest project; an epic adaptation of Salman Rushdie's Man Booker Prize-winning novel, ‘Midnight's Children’. She opens up about collaborating with Rushdie which “wasn’t a love fest but it was a part great affection and also innate respect”. The Indo-Canadian also discusses her elemental trilogy of films ‘Earth’, ‘Fire’ and ‘Water’ and shares how she got over the violent reaction of some political parties in India to her film ‘Water' when she “stopped wearing my rose colored glasses about Indian politicians” and understood that “people in India have an identity and a voice which is their own” which may be different and distinct from the views expressed by politicians. Seated before the big screen, Mehta also shares her love for cinema, which is “a wonderful medium to translate somebody’s life” for others. Plus, she reveals why her mother is so good at casting and why she’s putting the author Salman Rushdie in front of the camera in the role of a “sophisticated gangster” for her next project.
