Delhi HC issues notice to Twitter over non compliance of IT Rules 2021
Delhi High Court issued a plea against micro-blogging platform Twitter for non-compliance of social media intermediary guidelines that came into effect on May 26.
The plea urged the court to direct the social platform to appoint a Resident Grievance Officer under Rule 4 under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Ethics Code) Rules 2021 without delay.
The High Court has issued a notice to the Centre and Twitter seeking their stand on the plea.
According to media reports, Twitter will strive to comply with the applicable law in India.
Meanwhile, other tech giants, Facebook, Google, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and smaller companies like Telegram and Koo have either fully or partially complied with the new IT Rules.
Last week, Twitter had requested the IT Ministry to consider a minimum three month extension in order for the company to implement the new intermediary guidelines.
The company plans to advocate for changes to the elements of the regulation that inhibit free, open public conversation.
