Discovery channel Premieres 'Making of Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain'

In 1945 Union Carbide Corporation helped build the atomic bomb. In 1984 they built a time-bomb.

Bhopal tragedy - the shocking events that led to the biggest man made industrial disaster in history, in which as many as 10,000 people were killed in one night. For those that did survive, the tragedy had just begun.

In reminiscence of lacs of lives affected by the tragedy, Discovery Channel is premiering the Making of Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain based on the Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984. The special programme will go behind the cameras and sets of the movie which reveals the tale of the one of the worst industrial disasters in history.

Making of Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain premieres on Wednesday, December 3 at 9 pm only on Discovery Channel.

The Making includes behind the scene interviews with the stars, unseen footage from the film, cast and crew at work and a host of other interesting visuals to make one want to see more of the film. International talents - the likes of Martin Sheen, Kal Penn and Mischa Barton talk straight from the heart on the need to be a part of the movie. The story appeal of the movie is boosted by the cast enacting in it: an impressive combination of talent from Hollywood and India, including Rajpal Yadav and Tannishtha Chatterjee. While Sting & Anoushka Shankar has collaborated on a wonderful song called Sea Dreamer, Indian Talent such as Papon, Shilpa Rao and Swanand Kirkire have also created soulful renditions as a tribute to the survivors.

The production of the programme was a challenging task as it had to include emotions of the actors who play the part of the disaster. It gives a thrilling insight into one of the world’s biggest industrial disaster, the lives of the common man and the current situation with justice still being denied to the many victims who do not lead normal lives even to this day.

After thirty years of the plant standing as a ghost-like constant reminder, the water in Bhopal is still contaminated and one person a day dies as a direct result of the tragedy. The movie and the Discovery Channel brings an account of the dreaded night and the catastrophe that follows, till date.
