French billionaire Vincent Bolloré contemplates Vivendi Empire split

French billionaire Vincent Bolloré is considering a split of his extensive media and entertainment empire Vivendi SE. The conglomerate, valued at €10 billion, plans to divide into three parts: Havas (communication and advertising), Canal+ (pay TV), and a business including a major stake in the publishing group Lagardère. This strategic shift aims to enhance the value of its businesses, potentially raising their market valuation by nearly 40%, according to UBS analyst Adam Berlin. The move marks a departure from Vivendi's previous integrated consolidation strategy. The largest unit, Canal+, contributes over half of earnings and sales, while Havas accounts for over a quarter. If the split occurs, Canal+ and Havas could be valued at €6.1 billion and nearly €3 billion, respectively. Investors are watching to see if Bolloré, often compared to Rupert Murdoch, will increase his stake to gain greater control. The split could also impact the succession planning of the Bolloré family, with the 71-year-old Vincent Bolloré stepping back from certain businesses.
