Gautam Gambhir & Irfan Pathan on Shubman Gill & Rohit Sharma partnership

India have got off to a great start in the Asia Cup Super 4 clash against Pakistan. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma came out all guns blazing and left Pakistan’s lethal pace attack shellshocked. Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf all were taken to the cleaners. Shubman Gill was the aggressor and reached his half-century in just 37 balls.

Rohit Sharma also picked up momentum after a slow start in the powerplay and smashed Shadab Khan for 19 runs in an over. He reached fifty in just 42 balls.  This was Rohit Sharma’s 50th half-century. The Indian captain was out for 56 by Shadab Khan.  Gill has been in great form in ODIs, already scoring seven half-centuries and four centuries, including a double hundred in just 29 ODIs.

Gautam Gambhir: “They have a lengthy history in international cricket. Shubman Gill is only in his second game against Pakistan. If your partner is making quick runs during such partnerships, you are not required to do the same. This is what you get with experience, and you can expect it from Shubman Gill. There may be days when Rohit Sharma makes quick runs, and Shubman Gill plays second fiddle. In my perspective, cooperation should be taken forward collectively, which means looking at who is making fast runs."

Irfan Pathan: “The partnership between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill has provided a builder to KL Rahul, it is not easy when you come back and your position is being questioned if you’ll play or not. There is a difference if you come to bat on 2 wickets on 20 runs or 120 runs. So this partnership has provided a big builder to KL Rahul.
