Hero Pedals rewards girl for heroics; wins over social media

In the backdrop of the unprecedented devastation caused by the Kerala floods, brands and individuals alike have reached out to the suffering masses to provide relief to put Kerala back on the road to recovery. What should have been a period of celebration with Keralites being immersed in preparation for Onam festivities has been marked with despair.

Big brands like Amazon, Flipkart, BigBasket, Google, Paytm, and telecom service providers have taken significant steps towards providing relief to flood victims. Prominent individuals such as Sushant Singh Rajput, who donated Rs 1 crore towards flood relief after the request of a fan, and Gold actor Kunal Kapoor raised Rs 1.5 crore through his crowdfunding website Keto. Even foreign countries such as the UAE contributed as much as Rs 700 crore towards relief efforts.

Despite these massive efforts, the capacity of each and every individual to do their part in the flood relief cannot be ignored. While most people have supported efforts of organisations like Goonj in providng aid to the victims in Kerala, a 9-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu, Anupriya displayed a tremendous amount of compassion by donating her savings of Rs 9000, which she had saved to buy a new bicycle, to help the cause.

When this news started making the turns on social media it didn’t take long for Hero Pedals to offer the girl a free bicycle in appreciation of her gesture to support humanity. This timely move by the brand led to a 20% increase in its Twitter followers overnight along with outspoken support and commendation on social media.
