I still treat every new film as my first film: Anupam Kher

Actor Anupam Kher is completing 40 glorious years in the film industry this year. He made his acting debut in Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Saaransh’ in 1984, where at the age of just 28 years, he played the role of an elderly man grieving for his only son killed in the US.

The actor recently finished shooting for his upcoming romantic drama, ‘Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay’, which is set to release soon. During the trailer launch of his film, Kher spoke about his journey and said, “I still treat every new film as my first film. I consider these new actors like Guru Randhawa and Saee Manjrekar as my competitors. If you want to survive this long and stay relevant, then you have to be like a newcomer on every set of every new film.”

Kher doesn’t wish to be called a veteran and explaining his thought behind this, he said, “When you work for 40 years and do more than 500 films, then you want to make your job difficult, you can only do that by thinking that you are new in the industry. I am scared of this title of a veteran, this is the worst way of telling that this is how we are going to look at you. I want to look at myself with a different perspective. Of course, I will bring in my experience, love for any film which I am doing because earlier I was running fast nowhere, now I am walking slowly somewhere.”

Remembering his memorable journey in the entertainment industry, Kher said, “Forty years ago I came to Mumbai with Rs 37 in my pocket and today, I am launching the trailer of my 532th film. So, this journey has been full of ups and downs, but that is what life is all about. There is no fun in walking on the hurdle-less road. I have had my share of troubles, but I do not want to think about it, in fact, I want to enjoy my journey on this road ahead of me.”

‘Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay’ marks the debut of popular Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa in acting as well as actor turned producer Amit Bhatia. The film is slated to release on February 16.
