Imagine TV's Jyoti to go off-air soon

Jyoti has been one of the most popular shows on TV for the last two years, but it is now finally coming to an end. The last episode of the show will air on Imagine on Friday, 26th November. The show will be replaced by Armaanon ka Balidaan Arakshan which is a show based on the issue of reservation and social discrimination that still exists in our society.

Jyoti was launched in early 2009 and quickly became one of Imagine’s flagship shows with a very strong following amongst young women. What worked for the show was that Jyoti’s character was that of a strong, independent woman, who took on the responsibility of being the sole earning member of the house taking care of her parents and siblings. Her character was very different from the typical female characters on TV, who go through life being a victim of circumstances.

Speaking about this Nikhil Madhok, Marketing & Communication Head of Imagine says “ Jyoti has been one of our most popular shows and Jyoti’s character became iconic due her determination and self belief. As opposed to most other female characters on TV, Jyoti was always portrayed as a strong woman, with her own point of view. Over the last two years, on the show, Jyoti has stood up against domestic violence as well as furthered the cause of education for women. More importantly, she has done this not only in the reel world but also in the real world by becoming the brand ambassador for the Bell Bajao campaign against domestic violence,  as well as through the Jyoti Foundation for educating women. That’s what made her an inspirational figure for young women.”

Saurabh Tewari, Head of fiction at Imagine said “ Jyoti is a fantastic show and has done very well for us. However all good things must come to an end and we would like the show to come to a logical conclusion while it is still popular. I would like to congratulate the entire Jyoti team and especially Sneha Wagh for immortalizing Jyoti’s character through her wonderful performance.”

The leading lady of the show who played the iconic Jyoti, Sneha Wagh said “ For the last two years, I have lived and breathed this character, so Jyoti will always be very special to me. I will definitely miss being on the sets with the entire Jyoti team. However I am happy that Jyoti was a successful show and that we are bringing it to a logical conclusion while the show is still popular”.
