India Today TV gains ground in English News genre; crosses 20% share

The gap in viewership numbers between the top five English news channels is narrowing. Republic TV had created quite a ripple in the English news genre following its launch in May this year, where it had racked up four-digit numbers which continued for some months. The channel has been topping the English news genre since its launch.

However, things are now settling down as the market levels out. While Republic TV maintains its lead, other English news channels have been slowly but steadily narrowing the huge margins. As per Week 47 of BARC ratings, a mere 24 points separate genre leader Republic TV (gross viewership of 511) and the No. 2 player Times Now (gross viewership of 487).

Meanwhile, No. 3 player India Today Television is fast closing up on Times Now, garnering a gross viewership of 340 in Week 47. The channel has shown maximum growth in terms of market share, crossing the 20 per cent share mark in Week 47.

India Today Television also led the English news genre in the prime time slots of 9 pm and 10 pm (Source: BARC, TG: Males 22-40 AB, Mkt: Megacities, TB: As Mentioned, Wk 43 '17 to Wk 47 '17, Weekdays, Share % calculated based on 7 news channels)
