IRS Q3 2011: Hindi dailies continues to roar

The Media Research Users Council and Hansa Research have announced the findings of the third quarter of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS)2011.

The topline statistics of the Top 10 Dailies in India for Q3 2011, clearly show the strength of Hindi dailies in the country. Five of the 10 dailies in the list are Hindi, with Dainik Jagran ruling amongst all daily newspapers in the country with 16458 Average Readership Survey (AIR). It is followed by Dainik Bhaskar with 14876 AIR and Hindustan with 12033 AIR at the second and third spots. Malayala Manorama comes at the 4th spot with 9912 AIR, while another Hindi daily Amar Ujala is at the 5th spot of the top 10 dailies of the country with 8836 AIR. India's largest read English daily, The Times of India is comes next with 7467 AIR, while, the Tamil daily Daily Tanthi comes at the 7th spot with 7447 AIR. Marathi daily Lokmat is place at the 8th position with 7438 AIR, followed by Rajasthan Patrika with 6918 AIR and Mathrubhoomi with 6630 AIR, closing the chart.

The Q3 results of IRS 2011indicate that 8 out of top 10 English dailies in the country - The Hindu, Telegraph, Deccan Chronicle, DNA, Economic Times, Mumbai Mirror, Tribune and New Indian Express have registered growth; while The Times of India and Hindustan Times have been able to hold their readers during the quarter, but with a loss of 4,000 readers each.

While on the magazine charts, only 3 magazines of the top 10 - Meri Saheli, General Knowledge Today and Karmakshetra have witnessed growth in the AIR.
