IRS Q3 2012: Good quarter for English, Hindi Dailies; Languages dailies disappoints

Media Research Users Council (MRUC) have released the IRS 2012 Q3 Topline Findings of Indian Readership Survey (IRS), one of the world’s largest survey, on January 29, 2013. The survey indicates that though  Hindi Publications Dainik bhaskar, Dainik Jagran and Hindustan continue to register a growth in the third quarter of IRS 2012 with no change in the pecking order it has not been a very encouraging scene for the language dailies. It is evident as per the survey that seven of the top 10 language dailies have lost readership while only three have registered growth.

Malayala Manorama is at no.1 position closely followed by Daily Thanthi which has replaced Lokmat to take the 2nd position and thus bringing the latter to third position. According to IRS Q3 2012, there is no any change in the pecking order of the top 10 English dailies. Seven out of the top 10 dailies have registered growth in their Average Issue Readership (AIR) in comparison to the second round of IRS in 2012.Where English Dailies are concerned The Times of India and Hindustan Times and The Hindu are at 1st and 2nd & 3rd position respectively.

Hence in a gist it can be said that IRS Q3 2012 has not been a very  encouraging quarter for Language dailies but on the other hand a good and cheerful quarter for the Top 10 Hindi and English dailies according to the findings of IRS in the last quarter of 2012.
