JW Marriott New Delhi Aerocity to becomes plastic free

JW Marriott New Delhi Aerocity is all set to announce their biggest initiative of the year, a commitment to becoming a plastic-free 5-star luxury hotel. On September 9th, 2019, the hotel has pledged to launch the initiative that eliminates all single use plastic water bottles from the hotel. These plastic bottles are getting replaced by reusable glass water bottles filled with highly treated alkaline mineral water.

This project was initiated by the Engineering team of the hotel, spear- headed by Rahul Sisodia, Director of Engineering. In January, 2019 an in-house Water Purification and Treatment Plant was established. This water plant purifies and treats water making it absolutely “suitable and safe” for drinking. This operation was possible due to endless research, backed by visits to factories and consumer good manufacturing companies to learn and replicate their ways that aim at treating non-degradable materials, such as plastic.

The hotel used approximately 17,00,000 plastic bottles in the last year. Soon there will be none!

“The concept highlights the importance of introducing projects and processes which helps us to fulfil our responsibility towards supporting and building a sustainable environment. I am proud of my team for bringing an essential vision to life by working relentlessly on this initiative. We shall be more than happy to share the learnings and working of this water plant with any and all organizations, who would like to join this initiative. While we have taken the first step, we need the support of our partners and fraternity to ensure we make a meaningful difference for the generations to follow.”, says Nitesh Gandhi, General Manager, JW Marriott New Delhi Aerocity.
