Kajol, Kareena, Alia have changed the narrative for us: Shriya Saran

Shriya Saran is part of Karan Johar’s upcoming web series, ‘Showtime’. This star-studded show will be launched on March 8. Karan, under his Dharmatic Entertainment, has unveiled the trailer. The show stars Emraan Hashmi, Mouni Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Naseeruddin Shah and others.

At a press meet after the trailer launch, Shriya, who plays an important role in the series, was asked about her comeback on screen. To this, Shriya said, “The attitude of people towards actresses has changed a lot. When a hero doesn’t do a film for a few years, they say accha bahut dino baad parde pe dikh rahe hai. But when the actress doesn’t do a film for a few years for whatever reasons, maybe even for a few months, things are different and people say Oh! It is a comeback. I don’t know why it is like that. Why is there a preconceived notion about it?”

Shriya credits her fellow actresses for bringing in a change in perspective of people towards married actresses or new mothers in the industry and said, “Things have changed a lot now. Actresses like Alia Bhatt, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor Khan have changed the narrative. If you are passionate about your work, you love to come back and be part of what you love the most. The way they have done it, it has made it easier for everyone else.”

Speaking about her sabbatical, Shriya said, “When I wanted to come back after having my baby, there was a bit of nervousness about what it is going to be like. But thankfully, all my directors and everyone I have worked with were supportive and welcoming and extremely nice. It is actually very sweet when you go back on the sets and your director asks you ‘How is Radha?, How is life?’ There is no discrimination anymore. I hate to say this word, but back in the day it was very, very difficult for actresses. But it is getting better and things have changed now.”

Shriya has been married to Andrei Koscheev for more than five years and has a three-year old daughter Radha.
