Kapil Sharma takes the OTT route to bring back his comedy show

‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ is all set to premiere on Netflix this weekend. After ending is stint on a television, Kapil Sharma is bringing back his entire gang along with Sunil Grover on to OTT. The show will star Archana Puran Singh, Kiku Sharda, Krushna Abhishek and Rajiv Thakur. The opening episode will see Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahani as special guests. Every new episode will release on Friday at 8 pm.

On why he chose to make a show for Netflix, Kapil said, “People have always loved this show when it aired on television. But like people say, everyone grows and it has to happen. Everyone has the dream that we add a new feather to our cap. Netflix has this specialty – if you look at each and everything about this show, even this press conference, I have never seen so much attention to detail in arrangements. When I saw trailer of my show, it looks so good and world class, thanks to Netflix.”

Adding further, he said, “Tanya Bami (Netflix Series Head) might look cute, but hamare director ki gardan marod ke rakhti hai! But jokes apart, everyone has the same intention – to continue making everyone laugh, as we have been doing for so many years, only this time we are fortunate that we are bringing this show worldwide, thanks to Netflix. So, it feels good.”

Sunil Grover, who plays the hugely popular character ‘Guthi’, among others, in the show, is making a comeback to the Kapil Sharma Show after the infamous spat with Kapil. On his return, Sunil said, “It has been a delight to be part of this show. This is one place where work doesn’t feel like work. So, we are blessed. I am feeling blessed again as I am back home. We laugh all day and when we go to the stage, we take the same laughter there. I am deeply grateful.”

Archana Puran Singh, who has been associated with the show for a long time, added here, “Though Kapil makes fun of me, we share a deep mutual love and respect, which applies to the entire team. This is the specialty of Kapil, that there is no negativity on the sets at all. The small town element that he brought appeals to the entire country. He hasn’t changed and our love for him hasn’t changed over the years.”

Speaking about his reason of doing this show, Kiku Sharda quipped, “My primary reason is that they serve good food on the sets! I have been around for quite a while and have thoroughly enjoyed the process. Every time we brainstorm to do something new and different, we keep exploring new things and Mr Sharma is at it all the time when we discuss scripts. For me, the happiest thing is when we prepare to make a new episode. I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun discussing jokes, laughing through the day. What could be better than this in life?”

Echoing similar sentiments, Krushna Abhishek shared, “Since we are on Netflix this time, we thought we will do something new, that is why I have become a ‘girl’ again on the show.”

Adding further, he said, “We have sat for the characters this time. We have planned that we should do something different. In every episode you will get to see lot of variety of characters, especially me and Kiku bhai. We have done most of the episodes together; in the initial 5-6 episodes we are going to come in different avatars, something that had never happened on television. It is going to be really nice and new for our viewers.”
