Kolkata's 91.9 Friends FM re-launched

91.9 Friends FM, Kolkata (owned by the ABP Group), which was launched in February 2007, and was India’s first Adult Contemporary radio station. Friends lived up to expectations and went much beyond, by becoming leaders in SEC ABC 20+, and also had listeners tuned in for the maximum time – thereby becoming the undisputed No. 1 in TSL over a period of 5 years.

Now, 91.9 Friends FM has taken up yet another challenge – yet another daring attempt to rediscover and to innovate! Friends has now moved ahead with a station that’s relevant with the times. With a new sound and a plethora of brand new shows Friends went LIVE on air on 15th July 2013. The new avatar of Friends FM is now for listeners who’re young at mind and young at heart. All regular day part shows have undergone a change, and entertainment is super personified. For the first time in the city, Friends FM has introduced interesting features like an ‘Abak Kobi Sammelan’, with classical ‘PJs’, being performed in a most unique manner. It has had listeners in splits! ‘Abaak Kobi’ is aired across the day in the form of features, and so is 'Minu Mashi' - a household help, who gives useful household tips in her characteristic manner.

91. 9 Friends FM has also changed weekend listenership dramatically.  Arjuna Awardee, Olympian and World No. 4 shooter Joydeep Karmakar will be hosting a sports show called ‘Shoot Out’. Besides, for the first time an interactive music show is being hosted by one of Kolkata’s most famous rockers – Sidhu.  Other than that, dramatized version of ‘Arjun’, a very popular fictional detective created by author Samaresh Majumdar is being aired as a radio play. Quizzing is back on radio, with the Friends school quiz, to be hosted by renowned quiz master Krishnendu Banik.  ‘Friends Live’ is an opportunity for young bands and fresh music talent to perform live on the Friends FM airwaves. The weekend programming would wind up with a show on International chartbusters, that plays hits from across the years. All in all, a ‘radio weekend’ to remember!

High decibel marketing exercises have been taken up. Outdoor, print and radio activation routes have been taken to communicate the re-launch. 

All in all, Kolkata is in for a treat. This is just the beginning. 91.9 Friends FM promises more…Stay tuned!
