Last year was a Deol’s year: Bobby Deol

Bobby Deol will be performing on stage at the upcoming Zee Cine Awards ceremony. The actor was present at an event to announce his association with this year’s ceremony. While talking about awards, he confessed that last year has been a good year for him and his entire family.

Bobby said, “All I can say is that God has been kind. Last year was an amazing year for my family – it started with my nephew’s wedding, after that papa’s film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani’ got a lot of love. I don’t think anyone could have played that character so well. Then came ‘Gadar 2’, it felt like a dream. We could not believe that after 22 years, box office numbers just went on and on and it received such a great response. Then my other nephew’s film came and people liked his work, so it was another special moment. Then my film ‘Animal’ came. I give full credit of it to my director Sandeep Reddy Vanga as he saw my picture and gave me that role. Mere bekari ke din hi mere kaam aa gaye! It has been a great journey. You can call it a Deol year. But our industry did so well, there were so many films that did well last year, look at Shah Rukh Khan’s films, they were blockbusters. It was incredible.”

The actor assured that his family will try to be part of the show in Mumbai this year and said, “We Deols will be there, and Zee has always been a special award and has a special space in our hearts. They did ‘Gadar 1’ and ‘Gadar 2’, I did ‘Love Hostel’ on ZEE5. It was special for me because as an actor you try to challenge yourself and surprise the audience. I played a different character, which was out of my comfort zone and it was received well. I hope this year, too, I will win an award like I won for ‘Love Hostel’ last year. At the end of the day, awards become more special because of my fans, they feel so happy about it, it gives me more joy than anything else. I feel very grateful and have a lot of gratitude because awards are like a sign that your work is being appreciated. I hope I can keep my fans happy.”

Continuing further, he said, “I have been in this industry for 28 years now; the cine fans have always supported my dad, my brother and me. They have belief in me and it motivated me to work harder, and also as an actor, I have matured over the years. I have realised that I have to do roles which put me in a tight corner. It pushes me to bring out my best. This is the kind of work I am looking for. People have seen Abrar, the love I got for Abrar in ‘Animal’ is just overwhelming. It was a negative character and it got so much love and I want to thank Sandeep Reddy Vanga for giving me that opportunity. My career took a turn when I started doing OTT, it gave me an opportunity to prove myself.”

Bobby’s performance is going to be a special. “I am performing this year, actually I have not done many acts on stage. It is exciting and it is going to be fun. I always find being on stage more challenging than doing characters. There is something about my act this year that I can’t give away too much. Last year was Deol’s year, so it is going to be dedicated to that, I guess,” he added.
