Mukesh Ambani steps down as Reliance Jio Director; Akash Ambani made Chairman

There is a change of guard at Reliance Jio. On Tuesday, the Reliance Jio Board of Directors named Akash Ambani as its new Chairman. The appointment comes a day after Mukesh Ambani’s resignation as Director of the company became effective.

Other changes include the nomination of Pankaj Mohan Pawar as the company’s new Managing Director; and Raminder Singh Gujral and KV Chowdary as Additional Directors, both of whom are designated as independent directors.

Akash Ambani has previously served on the company’s Board as a non-executive director.

The roles will be filled for a period of five years beginning June 27, 2022.

“In line with the Stock Exchanges’ circular of June 20, 2018, we hereby affirm that Raminder Singh Gujral and KV Chowdary are not disqualified from holding the position of Director by virtue of any Securities and Exchange Board of India decision or any other similar authority,” the company stated.
