NDTV sets ambitious plan to launch nine regional channels

NDTV is embarking on an expansion initiative under the ownership of Adani Group's AMG Media Networks. The company's first major move since the acquisition involves the planned launch of nine news channels in various Indian languages, signaling a significant milestone for the network.
Currently, NDTV operates three channels: NDTV 24x7 (English), NDTV India (Hindi), and NDTV Profit (business news). However, recognizing the vast potential in other regional-language markets, the network intends to tap into key linguistic demographics, including Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and more.
This expansion strategy aligns with the broader industry trend, as many news networks have successfully launched state-specific channels catering to localized markets such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh within the Hindi language segment.
NDTV recently disclosed in a stock exchange filing that its board has unanimously approved a proposal to seek licenses for the aforementioned nine news channels from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). This move showcases the network's determination to diversify its content offerings and engage a wider audience across India.
"The Board of Directors of New Delhi Television Limited ("the Company") has approved a phased approach to seek permission from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for the launch of nine news channels in various Indian languages," NDTV stated in its regulatory filing.
Upon receiving approval from the MIB, NDTV will promptly inform the stock exchanges about the official launch dates of these channels, eagerly anticipating their introduction into the vibrant media landscape.
Under the leadership of Sanjay Pugalia, CEO of AMG Media Networks, NDTV is fortifying its newsroom and transforming the network into a dynamic and versatile multimedia digital platform. Pugalia has outlined ambitious plans to strengthen the organisation's journalistic capabilities and invest in state-of-the-art technologies to deliver a comprehensive news experience to its discerning global audience.
