News18 India & CNN-News18 continue their dominance on viewership charts

India’s number one Hindi and English News channels, News18 India and CNN-News18, continue to outperform competition on viewership charts. While both the channels have maintained their leadership streak for several months, News18 India has additionally continued to outperform the General Entertainment Channels in terms of overall reach.

According to BARC data (Market Share% 24hrs TG:15+, HSM, Week 42-45’22, All Day), News18 India accounts for 15.4%, followed by TV9 Bharatvarsh at 14%, Aaj Tak at 12.9 % and India TV accounting for 12.1%. 

In the much coveted Prime Time slot too, News18 India continued its dominance, with the channel garnering a massive 16% market share as per the BARC data (Market Share%, 1800- 2400hrs, TG:15+ HSM, week 42-45’22, All days). Meanwhile TV9 Bharatvarsh managed 14.9%, Aaj Tak remained at 13%, whereas India TV garnered 11.9%.

 

CNN-News18 continued its dominant run in the weekly BARC ratings, with the channel emerging as the Number 1 English News Channel in the country. The channel opened at number 1 position when the BARC ratings resumed in March this year and has continued its leadership run since then. As per BARC data (Market Share%, TG: 15+ AB, India, Week 42-45'22, All days 24 hrs) CNN-News18 secured a Market share of 31.9%, 19% more than Republic TV and 24% higher than Times Now. The market shares of Republic TV and Times Now remained at 28.2% and 25.8% respectively. 

Additionally, CNN-News18 remained ahead of the competition in prime time. As per the BARC ratings (Market share% 1800-2300, TG:15+ AB, India. Week 42-45’22, Mon-Fri) CNN-News18 secured 33.4% market share, followed by Republic TV and Times Now with 26.6% and 26.4% respectively. 

In terms of reach, News18 India has also outperformed the top General Entertainment Channels. According to BARC data, News18 India has a cumulative reach of 10.13 crore (BARC; HSM, TG: 2+, Cume reach ‘000, Avg; Wk 42-45’22), in comparison the cumulative reach of STAR Plus stood at 9.2 crore, whereas the cumulative reach of Sony SAB and Zee Tv stood at 8.07 crore and 7.9 crore respectively. 

Even on the digital front, the News18 brands have been garnering solid traction with its views increasing steadily across YouTube and other social media platforms.
