NGO calls for action against Ullu app

Uday Mahurkar, founder of the Save Culture Save Bharat Foundation (SCSB), has written to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) urging them to investigate Ullu Digital and its founders for potentially violating several laws.

Mahurkar's letter claims that Ullu Digital provided false information regarding criminal cases against its founders, Vibhu and Megha Agarwal. He cites specific details, including a case against Vibhu Agarwal for allegedly outraging the modesty of a female employee and another FIR related to potentially offensive content.

The letter further alleges that Ullu Digital has downplayed the risks associated with its business model, which may be a violation of SEBI regulations.

Mahurkar raises concerns about the app's easy accessibility on platforms like Google Play Store and Apple App Store, which children can readily access. He criticizes the lack of age verification measures on the Ullu app.

The letter concludes by requesting SEBI to investigate these issues and potentially block Ullu Digital's initial public offering (IPO) until the investigation is complete.

The letter builds on recent developments. Media reports suggest SEBI, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) are already probing Ullu following complaints. This comes after the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) raised similar concerns with MeitY.
