No, TikTok & 176 banned Chinese apps are not coming back

The ban on 177 Chinese apps by the Indian Government will continue. As is known, the Government had banned the first tranche of 59 Chinese apps, including the highly popular TikTok and PUBG, in June 2020, following incursions into the Indian territory by Chinese troops in Ladakh and the Galwan clash. A few weeks later, 118 more Chinese apps were banned. This was an interim ban. The banned Chinese apps were considered to be a threat to national security.

Now, as per media reports, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has sent notices these banned apps suggesting that the ban will continue. Therefore, with this, the interim ban becomes permanent.

The Ministry of Electronics and IT took this decision after reviewing the replies of the banned Chinese apps. Media reports have quoted the TikTok spokesperson, who said that the short video app had received a notice from the Ministry with regard to the ban.
