Onida's new ad punch line, punches Nokia

Onida ' one of India's popular electronics brand, has offended Nokia ' the world's largest handset maker, with its new ad campaign of Mirc Electronics owned, Onida which makes use of a punch line, "Dimaag Nahi Hai Tabhi To No Kiya".

Nokia has taken offence to its name being used indirectly in the commercial. It has termed the advertisement as disparaging complaining that the advertisement portrays Nokia in a poor light.

As per the media reports, the managing director (MD) Nokia (India), D Shivakumar has written a letter to Onida asking them to withdraw the advertisement.

On the same then the India director (marketing), Nokia, Vineet Taneja said, "Indian consumers are more intelligent and discerning than advertisers often perceive them to be. Comparative advertising based on facts is acceptable. However, we believe this is disparaging advertising and does not follow the spirit of advertising code of conduct."

However, after receiving a letter from Nokia, it seems that Onida is now looking at the "possibility of withdrawing the ad', said the media sources. Though Onida continued to say that its idea behind the campaign was not to undermine any brand and it is just a tongue-in-cheek advertising style.
