Remembering advertising industry veteran Kurien Mathews

GENTLEMAN, FRIEND AND A THROUGH PROFESSIONAL
KURIEN MATHEWS IS NO MORE.

I had two occasions to interact with Mr. Kurien Mathews. Once when I went for a job interview to his organisation Anthem and the other when I was a client of his newly founded agency Metal Communication. Their agency was handling out creative work for our start- up Eureka Mobile Advertising. If you ask me to describe Kurien in two words that would be HUMBLE and HELPFUL. He was also a soft-spoken person and a patient listener with a sharp mind.

From what I know he has been in the industry for over 3 decades. He started his career with Chaitra Advertising but in 1988 he co-founded Anthem Communications which later on merged with TBWA in India. He grew TBWA  Anthem into a sizeable agency and around 2008 he exited TBWA Anthem.

The entrepreneurial bug was always inside him and he once again ventured into starting a new agency called Metal Communications. He was always thinking on his feet and kept reinventing and innovating himself to be aligned with the latest trend prevailing in the communication world. He was also associated with Rage communication who were one of the early pioneers in digital. His diverse interest caught his eye in the organic food category and he was the director at Conscious Food who were a leading brand in organic foods.
He has been a true friend for many in the advertising industry. His contribution to the industry will be long remembered. May his soul rest in peace. And I sincerely pray God to give the family lot of courage and support to face this huge loss.

GANAPATHY VISWANATHAN.
