Sandeep Reddy Vanga on ‘Animal Part 2’, aggression, ‘Dukaan’

‘Animal’ director Sandeep Reddy Vanga specially came to Mumbai from Hyderabad recently to launch the trailer of ‘Dukaan’, the directorial debut film of his friends, writers Garima and Siddharth. In a freewheeling interaction with the media, Vanga spoke about his association with the film, its concept, and much more.

Vanga supported his friends Garima and Siddharth when no one was ready to back this film. He said, “They had put up a hoarding to get producers for this film, I was with them and we clicked pictures in front of it. That was three years back and in the middle of the pandemic. The roads were empty at that time as there was no traffic and looked very beautiful. I have known them for the last five years, they had written the dialogues for my film ‘Kabir Singh’. They are the most talented writers in town, may be in the country. I had heard the story of ‘Dukaan’ four years back. Ek surrogate ke peeche jo suffering hota hai, nobody knows about that, and I think they have brought that out in this film strongly.”

Vanga further said, “I am here only because they are very close friends, in fact, they are my first friends in Mumbai. Of course, now I have Saurabh, Suresh and Ranbir Kapoor as my friends.”

When asked whether he had cautioned his friends about the challenges ahead as they turned to direction, Vanga said, “Every first-time director has his/her own style, and regardless of the warnings that other might give them, everyone has to deal with their own set of problems – it could be related to the story or direction or lack of preparation of even the Censor Board.”

The director believes that no amount of assurance helps calm the directors and said, “While I may ask them not to worry, I think everyone has the same fear – whether or not the audience will like the film; there is no bigger fear than that.”

On the personal front, Vanga informed that he will begin work on the next part of ‘Animal’ and said, “I am working on ‘Spirit’ with Prabhas Garu and after that I will do ‘Animal Park’. ‘Spirit’ is about sincere cop.”

Regarding the portrayal of aggression in his film, Vanga said, “That is natural, I do not bring it for the story. I wrote that in a flow and then made a film.”
