Shop CJ launches India's first 24-hour Telugu home shopping channel

Shop CJ, Asia’s No. 1 home shopping network also available in Hindi, is now expanding their home shopping network to South India. The channel with original programming in Telugu is available across all major cable and will be soon available in Sun Direct DTH platform across entire Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Shop CJ globally is known for quality products and features several leading brands such as Electrolux, iBall, Prestige Cookware, Sansui, Intex, Reebok, Maharaja Kitchenware, Sia Jewellery, Canon, etc. The Telugu channel was launched by leading actress Tamanna. Shop CJ was known as Star CJ till recently before Star TV Group chose to exit from non-core businesses. Shop CJ is now a partnership between CJ O Shopping of South Korea and Providence Equity Partners. In India, Shop CJ is among the leaders in the TV home shopping market reaching over 6.5 crore households in India and currently catering to about 40% of the market.

Speaking at the launch event, Kenny Shin, CEO, Shop CJ Network said, “The home shopping industry is growing rapidly and similar trend is witnessed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh market.  With the launch of 24x7 Telugu home shopping channel, we have begun the process of introducing region-specific niche channels. The Telugu channel will not only enhance our customer base, but it will also offer a great platform for regional brands to expand their penetration. We aim to offer new innovative product categories and change the entire home shopping experience.”

Commenting on the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana expansion, N. Ramakrishnan, CFO, Shop CJ Network said, “Shop CJ’s channel launch in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will strengthen its presence in India. We are expecting to generate Rs. 250 crore revenue from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone by the next fiscal year 2016”.

Unveiling the channel, super star, Tamanna Bhatia said, “I am very excited to be launching the first Telugu 24x7 home shopping channel. The audience, particularly women, will now have a world-class shopping experience from the comfort of their home and in their own language.”

 The home shopping market is growing in India and Shop CJ is poised to cross Rs 1200 crores turnover this year, recording a 40% growth over its sales of Rs 850 crores last fiscal.  Home shopping on television scores over internet-based shopping because of its ability to demonstrate the products’ performance.
