Shyam Kishore makes debut in an International webseries “Slave Market”

Actor Shyam Kishore has just debuted in an international series “Slave Market”. Slave Market is a period saga set in the early 20th century where slavery was a much-used and organised practice in different parts of the world. This series depicts five diverse tales focusing on this practice of slavery that has taken many forms over the centuries and continues and continues to exist around the world. There are five different storylines namely the British line, Arab line, African line, and Indian line and all of these are woven into the common thread of Slavery.

The series was launched on 13th January 2023 and the actor is already being appreciated for his acting skills. Actor Shyam Kishore played the character of RAHOOL, who is the chief of the crew on the Slave ship. He smuggles slaves from the Bombay port to the Saudi port in exchange for a hefty amount of Gold. He is a slim man with a long moustache with curls at the end. He is greedy for gold and doesn't think twice to kill for it. He is insensitive, heartless, and rude and treats the slaves like animals. He started as a cleaner on the ship and has seen and experienced the darkest things imaginable which made him stone-hearted. He has a dominant personality and everyone on the ship is afraid of him. His greed eventually makes him meet his Karma in the form of a painful death.

Expressing how did he get this opportunity, the actor stated, “I have always looked forward to meaningful roles and I got a call for this series Slave market, I was not sure whether I should do it or not. As the casting team was not fully aware of the part and series. I sent my look test and I was chosen for this part called Rahool. Even at this point, I was not clear how the role is going to unwrap when I reached to shoot in Cairo, I got to know more about the series that is based on the slave trade and based in the early 1900s and has five different lines such as Indian, African, Arab, British and caucasian. I was thrilled to know that I will be playing the villain in the Indian line.”

“I always thought of working in Hollywood but this came as a surprise from the middle east. I was excited as so far only a few actors have been able to work in major roles abroad, namely Irrfan Khan (my senior from NSD), Om Puri & Naseeruddin shah (seniors from NSD), Kabir Bedi and a few more. And landing the role of a villain was such an overwhelming experience. My character is very complex in the series as it is the bridge between the slaves and the British & arab. When I had a word with the director Lassad Queslati, he had some idea about the character and I suggested a few character traits and gestures which he liked. I also played with my voice a little to suit the character. All this preparation paid off nicely when on the first day of the shoot the whole crew loved and I was fortunate that even the head honchos of MBC studios came to Cairo from Dubai and appreciated my work”, he further added.

The director of the show is Lassad Queslati who is one of the most sought-after directors in the whole of the Middle East.

Shyam Kishore also shared his excitement about making a debut in an international series. He said, “I am very excited about my debut in the International market with this series Slave Market which has already maintained a score of above 9.1 on the IMDB. The series have actors from all around the world and I was the only male actor from India. The shooting experience in Cairo was super fun and that made me learn a bit of Arabic as well. Now this release has come at a very crucial point in my career as I have also started producing content. Which will help me chose my future projects accordingly.”

Actor Shyam Kishore will soon be seen in Mirzapur 3 on amazon and The Good Wife on Disney Hotstar.

The Actor is well-known for his acting in films like Shaurya, Lamhaa, Nisshabd, Wo pehli baar, Murder on the road to Kathmandu, Haseen Dilruba, etc and has been part of various web series such as Sacred Games 2, Afsos, Gormint. He has also done TV shows such as Ek Hasina Thi, Upnishad Ganga, Samvidhan, Chalo Saaf Karen, CID & Crime patrol etc. Shyam has done over 40 plays with eminent national and International directors and has also been associated with IPTA, the Drama Club of JNU and lately Preksha Theatre.
