Sona Mohapatra released her "Bedardi Raja' on Red FM

Red FM, the station for expression, played host to the super talented singer Sona Mohapatra this Thursday. The singer was at Red FM Mumbai's studio to promote the radio release of her song "Bedardi Raja' from the superhit movie "Delhi Belly'. The singer, who visited the studios in her "desi rocker' avatar along with her band, was live on air on Mumbai Local with RJ Mantra (Mon-Sat 5-9pm). She entertained listeners with a live, unplugged version of the song along with snippets of her other popular songs.

Red FM 93.5 Network has been closely associated with the movie "Delhi Belly' and had earlier premiered the song "Nakkad Wale Disco' on 18 of its Red FM stations across the country. Red FM and UTV Movies also organized previews of the movie for Red FM listeners in 18 cities a day before the release of the movie. Select listeners also got the chance of a lifetime to meet and interact with Aamir Khan and stars of the movie.

RJ Mantra said "Delhi Belly is a very clever album that lends a contemporary take to familiar Indian sounds.Couple of months ago we had Delhi Belly's music director Ram Sampath with us in the studios. He even composed a short intro for our Mumbai Local show, which was loved by our audience. Bedardi Raja is possibly my favourite track out of the entire album. We all know that Sona is a fabulous singer, her repertoire of songs is a testament to her talent, but with Bedardi Raja she has scaled new heights."

Sona Mohapatra added, "Bedardi Raja comes from a long tradition of risqué 'Kotha' songs. We've heard refined versions of them in Bollywood movies of the 60's & 70's. Ram was keen on making a much more brazen version of the style and I've always been fascinated by this whole era in Indian music, history where the 'Kothewali' was also the only profession or means of earning ones livelihood available to women. These were true artistes, like the Geisha's of Japan, who were also the first independent women of their times!!

So, the spirit of the song in my mind was not only meant to be risqué & suggestive but also of a woman in control & enjoying it! It was Aamir's idea for me to play a Bass guitar in the video, wearing a sari & choti! Infact it was on his insistence that the music video featured me & my band instead of the actors, as is normally the case in Hindi films."
