The Future of Content Marketing: Trends that will dominate in 2022

Authored by Mayank Gulati, Founder and Marketing Director at Content Ninja

Content marketing is a central aspect of any brand strategy today, but how do you know what trends to focus on? As agile marketers, we are always looking for innovative ways to reach our audiences. So, brands need to plan for the latest trends to stay competitive and find creative ways to leverage them in their content strategy. As attention spans get shorter and people oscillate between multiple devices, how can you make your brand stand out?

We expect three major trends to dominate the content marketing landscape in 2022. Are you prepared to embrace them?

Let’s find out.

  1. Content Intelligence - the next big thing?

We are at the cusp of colossal changes with AI writing most of our marketing copies - from blogs to Instagram captions. AI writing tools will be the most significant trend in 2022, with many brands already migrating to sophisticated tools like Jarvis for all their content marketing needs.

But here’s the silver lining for content writers: your jobs are still safe because while the AI can generate highly-engaging content, it cannot personalize messages to target different audience segments. Essentially, it can rarely provide value.

After all, if you’re writing for SEO juice instead of value, Google will probably nip it in the bud soon enough.

  1. Content will be more interactive.

Content should be catchy and engaging to keep the audience on their toes. Interactive content does this well.

In fact, get this: 96% of users who start BuzzFeed Quizzes finish them.

Now that’s some engagement!

Stop thinking of your web interfaces as static ‘pages’ like the PPTs and PDFs of old. Pepper in some interactive images and visual+engaging experiences that you can only do on a screen, and you’ll have yourself an audience glued to your page.

Another way of making your content more interactive is by experimenting with creatively designed content types like infographics, quizzes, bite-sized videos, and carousels.

  1. The world is going Meta.

The Metaverse is having a moment lately, with major brands like H&M and Facebook envisioning their future in this virtual world. Even the Australian Open has joined the Metaverse now! It surely is getting bigger by the hour and undoubtedly will be one of the biggest marketing platforms of 2022. If you have been living under the rock, Metaverse is at the center of the digital trifecta - blockchain, virtual and augmented reality, and Web 3.0. In 2022, Metaverse will be as popular as the internet, and savvy marketers are taking note of that.

Marketing and ads are two of the newest additions to the Metaverse, so it’s no surprise that prices for running a campaign are relatively low. This is an excellent opportunity for brands whose target audience spends a lot of time in this virtual world. One-way ads won’t work here, so brands need to focus heavily on engagement rates if they want new users hooking themselves to the product. After all, nothing converts faster than an engaged user!

Cutting to the chase.

The future of content marketing is bright and will continue to evolve with new technologies. AI writing tools will keep getting more intuitive, and millions of brands will join the Metaverse sooner than expected. This means that marketers need to stay ahead in their game by leveraging these trends into their strategies in 2022.
