The legendary classic tale -'Madhumati' on 20th February at 8 PM

With its core proposition ‘Woh Zamaana Kare Deewana’, Zee Classic aims at reviving nostalgic moments and memories while providing complete entertainment. The channel celebrates the journey of the renowned filmmaker, Bimal Roy, with an exclusive five-part series titled, 'The Bimal Roy Festival presented by Boman Irani'. The festival now in its third week is all set to showcase one more masterpiece from the filmmaker’s stable - ‘Madhumati’ which will be showcased on Saturday, 20th February at 8 PM.

An unknown and interesting trivia of the movie is that the immortal song ‘Aa Ja Re Pardesi’ was initially rejected by Bimal Roy as he felt that it doesn't go with the mood of the film. Lata Mangeshkar, the singer of the song, insisted to use the song in the movie and if not used then she will stop singing for Bimal Da’s films. Bimal Roy reluctantly kept the song; and the rest is history. Also Madhumati was the first movie to receive Best Singer Award for the song ‘Aa Ja Re Pardesi’. Prior to this, only music directors were nominated in music category. Due to Lata Mangeshkar’s decision of boycotting award functions, the best singer award was introduced in the year 1959.

The story revolves around Anand (Dilip Kumar) an engineer who drives down a hill with his friend to fetch his wife and child. A landslide blocks their path and they take shelter in an old mansion off the road. It is here that Anand finds the house uncannily familiar and starts having flashes of memory from his previous birth. These memories revolve around his true love, Madhumati (Vyjayanthimala). It is a story of their ill-fated, star-crossed tragic romance, and how events of his previous birth are going to affect his present.
