The other side of Rekha - her passion for music

Happy Birthday Rekha! The evergreen Greta Garbo of Indian Films: who is not only a talented actress but also a great singer. Apart from her stupendous acting career Rekha always had this inclination towards singing. In the few instances when she has appeared on television shows, she has sung impromptu and the audience throughly enjoyed listening to her. Rekha turns a year older as she celebrates her 69th birthday on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. The actress continues to remain a heartthrob for zillions of fans across the globe. Born on October 10, 1954, in Chennai, India. She was born into a family with connections to the film industry, as her father, Gemini Ganesan, was a popular Tamil actor, and her mother, Pushpavalli, was a Telugu actress. Rekha made her Bollywood debut as a child artist in the film 'Rangula Ratnam' (1966). Her first lead role was in the film 'Sawan Bhadon' (1970).

Recently an old video started making rounds on social media, where she is seen paying homage to the late Pakistani classical singer Mehdi Hassan by singing one of his renowned songs. in 1983, in London, she sang Mehdi Hassan's ghazal, 'Mujhe Tum Nazar Se Gira To Rahe Ho...Mujhe Tum Kabhi Bhi Bhula Na Sakoge' with great skill and proper emotion. In the video, after singing, she covers her face, mentioning that she could have delivered a better version of the song.
During her film Super Nani, Rekha was in Kapil Sharma show where she sang with a harmonium. Rekha brought with herself one of her most prized possessions, her harmonium which has been her musical companion for close to 30 years. She sang several songs from her film including Aapki aankhon mein, Salaam-e-Ishq, Rang bare se, Ghoom hain kisi ke pyaar main and the Super Nani title track.

At the work front, earlier this year, Rekha made an appearance in a promotional video for the TV show "Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin." On Star Plus. She also graced the cover of Vogue Arabia, wearing Manish Malhotra's design.
