These lesser-known facts about the superhit Tamil film ‘Jodi’ shall leave you amazed!

A.R Rahman is touted as a genius. His soulful music has made many films blockbusters over the years. But did you know that his old tunes were once used to compose the soundtrack of an entire movie? This month, Sony MAX brings to you the World Television Premiere of Prashanth Thiagarajan starrer Jodi, a romantic drama whose soundtrack was actually created out of earlier tunes that Rahman had composed for a Hindi film.

Directed by Praveen Gandhi, Jodi is a heart-warming tale of love between Kannan (Prashanth) and Gayathri (Simran) whose contrasting parental backgrounds become a roadblock in their happily ever after. Unfazed by the odds, the duo decides to deploy unique tactics to find a fix to their love story.

While Jodi makes for an engaging watch for its free-flowing script and stupendous performances, there are a few lesser-known facts around the film that are sure to create intrigue amongst movie lovers -

Prashanth Thiagarajan – If you have grown up in the 90’s, you will fondly remember him as the man who debuted in Hindi cinema with none other than Aishwarya Rai. Yes, the same guy who impressed all with an effortless dual role in Jeans, is the lead in Jodi. He plays a music shop employee Kannan whose quest for love makes him do the unthinkable

Milestone of 25- This movie marks the 25th film of Superstar Prashanth, a name to reckon with the Southern film industry. With his impeccable style and charm, Prashanth rose to popularity by delivering versatile performances that earned him deserving love and fandom. His performance in Jodi also adds up to this list.

Power of Rahman - Director Praveen Gandhi wanted A. R. Rahman to compose the music for this film. But the latter declined owing to his busy schedule. But such enormous was his affinity for Rahman’s music, that the director went ahead and used his earlier tunes that he had created for the Hindi film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna. In a heartfelt gesture, Rahman had penned the opening lyrics for the song “Oru Poiyavadhu”, the only original song in the film.

Remakes - The film was so well appreciated that it was later remade in Kannada in the year 2007 and renamed as “Sajni”. A Hindi version of the film was also planned by the director with different songs, but the project never took off.
